I love this kind of paint, really... I love the way the painter made the light reflect on the pavement.... And in fatc i love the light of this kind of paint... The subject was also well highlighted by Longsdail.

Saint Martin in the Field: comment of the painting

This documment is a painting. William Logsdail painted this oil on canavas in 1888. He is well know for his portrait, architectural and landscape subjects.
Basically this painting represent a part of square with people, barouche and a church. thi is the Saint Martin church in Trafalgar square in London.
I can see, in the middle of the foreground, a girl street sallers. She's wearing a green dress and a hat. On the left there's a woman with her child Woh seems rather wealthy because of her beautiful red clothes.
There's a gap between the woman and her child who are rich and the little girl. she as to sell flowers to earn money; she probably gets up early to work and doesn't comes home until very late.
In the background, just back the lady there's a sort of machine, I think it's a steam machine. On the right there is the Saint Martin church in the Victorien architectural style.
One can see barouch on the square and a man who delivered ewspaper on the right.
The lampost, near the church, wich are all the same show the Industrial Revolution. they have been made in a factory and need coal are peotrolto turn on.
The steam machine and the Victorien style are also clues wich show it's the Industrial Revolution period.
THis oil underline the contrast between the middle upper class and the worker class, wich is highlight by the two children: one working for is life, the other one just hanging out with her mother in an expensive coat.

that's the work I have done in class a few weeks ago. I hope you can give me a mark for my work in spite of the late.

Saint Martin in the Fields: my own comment of the painting.
Like Lucile, I have done this work in class a long time before the holiday but I didn't present it. I wanted to put my comment before but I didn't have the time... If you can give me a mark too even if I'm very very late...

This document is a painting. An oil on canvas. It was painted in 1888 by William LOGSDAIL, an English painter, and it's called Saint Martin in the Fields. William LOGSDAIL is well-known for his realistic scenes of London. He painted this picture from a vehicle stationed near to Trafalgar Square. Saint Martin in the Fields is an Anglican church of Victorian style.

This painting reprensents a street of London, around the nineteenth century, during Victorian time and the Second Industrial Revolution.
In the foreground, in the middle, there is a little girl who is selling flowers. She wears a green dress and a hat. She's very young and she looks poor. On the left, we can see a woman in a long red dress with her child. They seem to be rather wealthy because of their clothes. On the right, there is someone, probably a young boy, who is selling newspaper. In the background, there are many carriages and people and also a policeman who is ridding a horse. On the right hand corner, we can see Saint Martin Church. Thnaks to the clothes, we can say that the scene takes place in winter; it's a cloudy day. All around the street, there are several lamposts.

According to me, there is a contrast between wealthiest and poverty. We can notice the gap between the woman with her child on the left and the little flower girl or the newspaper boy. The first are rich and have a good life whereas the others have to sell flowers or newspaper so as to earn money and make a living. Probably, they get up very early to work and they don't come home until very late, if they have one...
There is an opposition between two social classes. One who is rahter wealthy, and another like the girl or the boy who have many difficulties to live. They don't have money, perhaps they don't have home either whereas the woman and her child on the left, who are in a rather upper class, are well-groomed and probably happy.
